PORTRAITS OF THE NON-EXISTENT-BIRD - HUSSEIN TAÏ.

Hussein Al-Taï is born in 1966 in Iraq. Studies and diploma at the Faculty of Arts in Baghdad (1985-1992). He moved to Denmark in 2001. Painter, printmaker and excellent book artist.

“ In terms of form and representation, this Portrait of The-Non-Existent-Bird freed me from the usual image of the bird. I found myself facing myself. I asked myself many questions. Images and stories of Mesopotamian civilizations have risen to my consciousness; my personal imagination was also activated.

This bird represents pacifist human persons; they are sad and living on the fringes of their society. This bird is migrating and he wishes to fly high and far, to settle in a place other than his country of origin. My compositions are a synthesis of subliminal images, collages, drawings and paintings. My artist’s book is like the journal of my relationships with this Bird-Who-Does-Not-Exist.

My suitcase-bird is the portrait of the emigrant-bird who puts in his suitcase what is most precious; it is not a cage in which the bird-man is deprived of freedom, but the suitcase is the symbol of migration, freedom and travel to a better world.” (Hussein Taï, Copenhagen, March 2014).
